There's a Patty Griffin song that includes the line: "...most everything means nothing, except some things that mean everything." To summarize the past 10, 20 years - this says it best.
We've enjoyed kindnesses so deep and genuine and rare in their significance, they can only be paid forward, and, as they seem, injustices whose debt can only be forgiven. It's not all rosy, it's not all bad.
David Redmond (also class of 88) and I married 9/11/99, lived in and around Seattle, then moved to Spokane Valley in August 04.
We've been blessed with three beautiful - unique, imaginative, kind - children, and devastated by the loss of one of them. Meaghan, 6; Christopher, 5/04-1/06; Eric, 6 weeks. Christopher had a very rare, very aggressive brain tumor that was diagnosed when he was 17 months old. Our world imploded. Statistically, most marriages fail after the loss of a child. We are good counterbalances to each other, blessed with each other's strengths and challenges - never perfect but deeply devoted to each other and our kids.
If I'm learning anything it's to accept realities - though embracing them is harder - and to try and appreciate and live in each moment. And in this moment, Eric wants to nurse...
